Something Different - Gutter Cleaning

One of our contract clients asked us if we could clean the guttering at three of their premises. Naturally we said yes for the chance of a new type of waste clearance and a change of work pattern for us. It was a struggle at some of the building edges as the weather was not in our favour with high winds and lashing rain but that wasn't going to stop us getting the job done.

It was also a great experience to liaise with the area manager, site managers and staff in order to make this working practice successful. You can't simply just appear on-site and start working especially when you are dealing with buildings that have constant public access. After inspecting the three sites and drawing up risk assessments we were able to make a plan of work and then relate this to the site managers and after a bit of tweaking came to an agreement of how the work activities could be carried out safely.
With health and safety being in the forefront of any working practice we had to up our levels of PPE and use appropriate signage to warn of hazardous working areas while we were carrying out our duties (see below)
At all times we had ground staff keeping the general public safe while we could focus on the gutter cleaning  overhead
Setting up a job like this seems easy in practice when looking at photographs but the reality of being vigilant keeping the public safe and communicating with staff inside the building on working progress is an art we feel we have achieved. As all businesses would agree although Health and Safety may cost time and money it is an essential practice in order to be compliant with Heath & Safety Law. Reducing the risk of accidents and maintaining a high level of safe working practices even on the smallest of jobs is key
